Problem Acne - Try Botox!

By Cam A. Lennot

Botox Cosmetic has been approved for cosmetic purposes for the past twenty years. Not surprisingly, it is most known for eliminating wrinkles and turning back the clock. One of the most promising areas for the use of Botox is for the treatment of acne. Also, it is being used in the reduction of pore size.

Acne is one of the most commonly occurring skin conditions. It's estimated that nearly 100% of teenagers have at least an occasional acne breakout. It is estimated that over 40% of teenagers seek the attention of a physician for acne treatment. This is a pretty shocking statistic and certainly speaks to the severity of the acne among this population. In its most severe form, cystic acne, the scars that it leaves on the face can affect an individual for a lifetime. It is thought to result from a combination of factors including excess oil or sebum production, although the exact cause is not known. Contributing factor include ineffective exfoliation resulting in pore clogging, bacterial overgrowth and inflammation.

Botox has been found to be helpful for patients suffering from acne. Botox is injected just under the skin to get at the source of the oil producing glands. Overall acne severity should see a decrease. And the pore size could be reduced as much as sixty percent. A very shallow injection placed at the depth of the sebaceous glands is the key to pore shrinking through Botox. This is unlike the normal Botox treatment for wrinkles, which tend to target the muscle tissue under the skin.

What you Should Ask your Physician

- Are you licensed to administer Botox?

- Do you specialize in Botox treatments?

- Is this the best procedure for what I want accomplished?

- Is there another treatment that can enhance my Botox procedure?

- Are there deals or current specials that I am not aware of?

- Do you have any video examples you would be willing to show me?

Consider price as one of your criteria but not your only one. You're likely to get a less experienced and qualified injector if you target a bottom basement price. Of course, it's not a bad thing to shop around to get the best deal based on a number of criteria. But be sure to do the proper research when selecting a physician.

Botox = No Pain

Unlike a surgery, the recovery time for this procedure is zero. The nice thing about this treatment is that there is no pain involved. The actual injection is sometimes described as a small pin prick or a mosquito bite. Most patients experience no discomfort at all. Again, the recovery period is non-existent. You can continue on with your regular routine. Patients can go about their planned schedule. You can even schedule an appointment in between errands.
