Secrets To Ceramic Tile And Grout Cleaning

By Janelle Burnett

One of the greatest joys of coming home is entering a clean house. Having a spotless floor, bathroom, and counters is one of life's simple joys. However, these surfaces are always used and thus the tendency for them to get dirty is quite high. Here are some tips to ceramic tile and grout cleaning you can follow to maintain a clean and sanitary environment.

Particularly for bathrooms and counters, the constant moisture causes the buildup of mold and mildew. This is not only unsightly but also unhealthy. The most common practice to clean such is by putting on those rubber gloves and bringing out the brush to scrub them clean. This is not a chore anyone enjoys. It is not that simple either. It would be best if a chemical agent be used while doing this. There are several products in the market that one can choose from depending on the extent of the dirt that needs to be removed. Some of these are quite harsh and might not be pleasant to use.

If maintenance is done regularly and quite often, organic cleaners are best. It will not take long to clean a few days buildup of dirt and mold with this type. One remedy that is found in every home is a mixture of baking soda and vinegar.

Steam cleaners are an excellent option. With their high pressure steam, they can penetrate and easily loosen stains. They are also relatively simple to use. You simply wave the steam head across the area and wipe the water off. There is also no need to use chemical agents which is a plus.

Stubborn stains will require the use of chemical cleaners that contain strong bleaches. Adequate care must be taken when using this as they are often harsh and sometimes relatively toxic. Precautions are always necessary and a gradual process starting from using milder mixtures and graduating to the stronger ones must be followed.

The easiest way to keeping these surfaces clean is periodic scrubbing and maintenance before the dirt can build up. Examples of these are, first, have a mat outside your door where those entering can wipe off dirt before entering your home. Second would be regular sweeping. Dirt sticks to surfaces in time so taking them off before they get a chance to do so would retard this process. If available, using a vacuum cleaner could also be a solution. Just make sure that your unit has a brush end to avoid scratching the surface. For the same reason, damp mopping also helps. Wiping moisture and spills from counters immediately is also important.

For those who prefer the easy way, there are several companies that specialize in this service. They may sometimes be costly but they do a superb job which lasts long. All you have to do is search the internet to find the company that suits your needs.

What makes ceramic tile and grout cleaning difficult is how often you do it. The best tip is to do it often so that dust and dirt do not take a hold on the surface. The more time the mold and mildew stay around the longer it allows them to take hold and even penetrate. Making this task a regular part of your schedule will make the entire exercise much simpler and less unpleasant.
