One good thing about using your own homemade lip balm is that you can always decide what color, consistence and scent you will make.

Here is a sample lip balm recipe that makes use of your old lipstick.

Materials to prepare:

Container(size depends on the user, this is where the lip balm will be stored)

Petroleum jelly

Old lipstick(choose a color that you like)

Food flavoring of your choice

Process:

1.Prepare a small amount of petroleum jelly and place it in a microwaveable container using a spoon or any other material you can make use(make sure to get your preferred amount of petroleum jelly depending on the amount of lip balm you wish to make).

2. Prepare the microwave oven and place the microwaveable container inside. You have to wait until the petroleum jelly turns into a liquid.

3. Add your old lipstick to the fluid petroleum jelly. Amount of lipstick to be added depends on how light you want your lip balm to turn out.

4. After adding the lipstick into the fluid petroleum jelly, you can put back the petroleum jelly and lipstick mixture in the microwave for a minute or until the lipstick completely melts. When the lipstick has melted, take the mixture from the microwave and continuously stir until the lipstick completely mixes or combines with the petroleum jelly.

5. Putting in drops of your preferred food coloring is optional, but if you want to do so, make sure to mix it into the concoction very well. Also, if you wish to add food coloring into your lip balm mixture, there are a lot of food coloring that you can choose from such as lemon, orange, strawberry, mint, vanilla and chocolate. However if you don't like to add food coloring into your lip balm concotion, you can just disregard this step and go on into the next step.

6. Before pouring the mixture into the container, check if it is starting to get hard. If that happens, just place it back into the microwave so that it will be back to its liquid state. Then just pour it into the container once it is back to its liquid state. Do not forget to make use of an oven glove when holding the container since it is hot.

7. Tightly close the container. It is your choice if you want to place your mixture into the refrigerator for it to harden faster and within 20 minutes your mixture is already hard or you can just leave it to harden at room temperature which may take about an hour before it hardens.

8. Once your prepared lip balm has completely hardened, you can now try to use your homemade colored lip balm.

Aside from getting your own lip balm that is easy to make, you will also experience the fun in making your own homemade lip balm with the use of your old lipstick. If you feel that your homemade lip balm is good to use and you feel happy with result of making your own homemade lip balm, you have the freedom to again make other sets of homemade lip balm that you can use and also give away as gifts to other people.
