Understanding The Process Of Sandblasting And Painting

By Grace Rivas

Sandblasting and painting are 2 processes that go together in decoration of surfaces. Sand-blasting is the powerful propulsion of fine particles towards surfaces for etching or cleaning purposes whereas painting refers to the application of paints on a place. From the definitions, it should be understood that sandblasting is performed before paint application. It serves as a surface preparation exercise for the paints to bond well with the surface they are applied on.

Blasting is applied in removing various types of dirt like mold, old paint, dust, and mud among many others. It might be utilized to wash both small and large surfaces and objects. The examples of surfaces that can be cleaned using this process include cars, floors, walls, roofs, windows, trees, household equipment, animals, and ceiling boards. It requires skills and some experience to save on time, water, and abrasive.

The exercise of abrasive blasting is carried out using an appliance called an abrasive blaster. The machine comprises of various components that work together to realize a common purpose. The various elements include abrasive nozzles, hoses, air compressors, and power units. The hosepipes have tiny openings to aid in increasing and upholding the pressure and force with which abrasives come out of the equipment.

The blaster equipment may be fueled by different fuel sources such as gasoline, diesel, petrol, and electrical power. The power unit utilizes the fuel to give the power required to run other elements of the equipment. The air compressor sucks the atmospheric air and compresses it to a great level. Pressurization is intended to give air the power to propel abrasives for cleaning the item being sandblasted.

The nozzle is usually handled by the individual operating the machine. The individual directs the nozzle to face the place that is being cleaned or etched. This implies that how much water, time, or abrasive is spent on the task depends on the effectiveness of the operator. Experienced individuals tend to produce better results within a shorter period. That is the reason it is best to hire a company with experience in sandblasting.

After the surface is well prepared, the actual painting job can start. Powder coating is a current method of applying paint on an item and if applied properly, it produces nice results. It has many advantages over the conventional paint. First, need for a solvent medium to keep the paint in a solution form is not necessary. The powder remains in a dry form and may be applied up to a thick layer without sagging or running.

As part of the preparation, all elements that do not require to be painted must be removed from the spot. Once the paint has been applied to the needed level, the object must be put through a curing exercise which is same as drying in ordinary painting. Curing should take around fifteen minutes under oven warmth. Flameless heat sources achieve the curing in a perfect way.

Sandblasting and painting are two services rendered together by several corporations. Most service businesses in this line of work have most current machines necessary for the work. For individuals who lack the right expertise and the equipment to perform the task, service companies are a nice option.
