Medium level riders enjoy a trek on which the mount walks and trots. It is still possible to enjoy the countryside at this pace, although it is more challenging. The participant must be able to control the movements of the horse.

The advanced equestrian will be suited to the trail ride that walks, trots and canters. To be included in this group, it will be necessary to answer questions about experience and skill. Often a demonstration of control will be requested.

People do not have to travel to far-off locations to find open trails to enjoy. Many large cities have equestrian facilities in the center of a large public park or private wooded area. There riders can enjoy the spacious beauty around them.

In states such as Colorado, there are challenging mountain trails for the skilled horseman. There may be a creek to cross and a steep slope to climb. In autumn the changing colors of the surroundings are a glorious addition to a pleasure trip.
