Steps Necessary In Construction Site Preparation

By Tisha Greer

Construction site preparation is often a brief process that can be done in hours yet it is the most important step that determines the safety of the building to be erected. A project manager is often put in charge to ensure that everything is done in the right manner and in the precise time set for them. This process however can only be undertaken once the consent is received for the relevant legal authorities.

The project manager is required to stake out the boundaries as exact as per the architectural drawings. A placard should be erected on the most visible part within the surrounding fence and should have information pertaining to the company name and contacts details. This information is important for reports of any incidents happening in the absence of the managers.

Health and safety signs also must feature in the most visible parts of the location. These signs are critical for safety of workers and the general public passing around the locations. They mostly include warnings and cautionary information about possible risk observation and reminder of the use of appropriate protective gear.

A professional engineer should be consulted for the various soil tests that must be performed on the selected location. It is the most important test that is used to determine future problems and possible ways of evading them. The location has to be searched for possible old excavations, drainage channels and cables. Foreign materials should be removed and excavations have to be filled.

Existing services such as water and electricity should be located and allocated to the project at hand in accordance to the funds available for the same. Social amenities like washrooms, changing rooms and other offices have to be arranged for as they will be the operating stations for the personnel working on the building. They must be located within the building location and should be open for all the persons working on the same project.

A lot of communication services is expected during the building process. Different personnel must be made aware of the overall schedule and must be informed of respective times they are expected in the site. Project managers have to inform the clients of their working progress and possible additional requirements along with the payment of workers.

Storage facilities should satisfactorily be provided for assembly materials to be purchased and the daily equipment used around the area. The storage area should be spacious enough and must have the best security systems installed to curb the widespread theft. It has also been noted that theft of construction plans and other expensive equipment has also risen thus the need to ensure absolute security.

Construction site preparation remains the most important step that is adhered to by all building firms. All the rules and regulations are issued to practising professionals and in particular when they complete the relevant courses involved in their respective fields of studies. The courses enable them prepare building locations swiftly and in a very short time.
