The Importance Of A Public Relations Evaluation

By Tara Daniels

There is no business in the world that can survive without people. The very core of trade is that people buy and sell commodities. Therefore, every business owner must ensure that his product or brand name has a good image amongst its potential and existing clients. A public relations evaluation is essential every few months to give useful feedback and guidance for improvement.

Public relations refers to any communication that may take place between a business and its clients. This may be direct or indirect, from actual dialogue to virtual communication or just the perception they may have of who you are and what your company represents. If the image you portray is positive and well received, then income should be consistent.

Many business owners often underestimate the importance of good consumer relations. As a result, they do not invest in doing any public relations evaluation. They just go on from day to day not knowing how they are perceived by consumers or how this may affect productivity.

Some companies do not even have a substantial department for this area of work. It requires either an individual based in the company or an independent agent who is outsourced to handle and maintain the social image and customer relations. This can involve everything from social networking on Facebook, Twitter and other popular sites, to online marketing via emails, or sending out regular newsletters to clients and employees to maintain a positive and healthy relationship.

If a functional relationship is maintained with people, they will grow to be in your favour and recommend your brand over others to people in their social circles. It is known that consumers display certain patterns, and one of these is returning to a product or brand they feel familiar with. Word of mouth is more powerful than some people realise. Good marketing can lead to better business.

Correspondence with the outside world occurs regularly, hence a public relations evaluation should take place approximately every three months. This can be done by going through emails, calls or letters from clients. Online forums and Facebook postings should also be evaluated collectively. A general idea of what the public feel and say about your brand should be established and assessed.

The procedure should also involve an evaluation of internal communications and relationships with staff members. If employees are happy or disgruntled, an assessment will reflect this and indicate what needs improvement and what is working well. Staff motivation exercises can include regular pep talks or luncheons to ease stress and encourage communication.

No matter how big or small a particular enterprise may be, it must have a PRO and a public relations evaluation must be done more than once throughout the year. If it is not done, existing problems will only get worse and this can have very negative consequences. Any tiny bit of bad publicity can ruin an entire business venture so it is crucial to communicate and elicit feedback regularly to prevent this. If consumers or staff are unhappy, this kind of evaluation will show what the problems are and how they can be addressed. If done effectively, the results can only be positive.
