Design Pavements Through An Asphalt Company Maryland Area

By Jaclyn Hurley

Having a properly installed asphaltic pavement by asphalt company Maryland area ensures that the structure lasts for many years. Depending on the construction standards applied by the contractor and the quality of material, you can have a durable driveways and parking lot. In addition, the kind of preventive maintenance you apply on the structure determines how long it will last.

If you have to stand above your competitors, you need to consult the best contractors in building your pavements. With properly installed pavements, you ensure they last for long. The asphaltic pavements can have a life expectancy of more than 25 years if they are constructed using the right standards and practices as well as quality materials. Such investments can help enhance the image of your business or home.

When you construct driveways in your home, you reduce dust and mud from getting into your home. You also prevent the damages caused by bumpy driveways on your vehicles. Moreover, driveways add aesthetic beauty and economic value to a property. If you want to sell a property, you will find that it will fetch higher dollar value if it has properly constructed and maintained driveways.

When the gravel is laid in a thickness of about five to eight inches, it supports the blacktop pavement materials and allows the structure to last for long. A good foundation allows the driveways or parking lots to last for many years without experiencing major structural defects. Once you have constructed your pavements, you need to seal them in order to protect the blacktop.

The outer surface of asphaltic materials is vulnerable to effects of sunlight and water. The ultraviolet rays from sunlight increase the rate of oxidation meaning that the material dries up fast than intended. Usually, asphalt undergoes a natural oxidizing process that lasts its lifetime. This means that, if the process of oxidizing is accelerated, the material will age fast and fail prematurely.

Sealing the surfaces ensures that your drives and parking lots are not damaged easily. The sunrays are prevented from heating blacktop directly, something that enhances the life of your structure. After about six to twelve months following the installation of driveways, you will need to sealcoat the outer layer.

When the oxidizing process is over, you have reached the end of life with the driveway or parking lot. You have to construct another one. This may take more than thirty years depending on how you have been taking care of your driveways. The newly constructed asphaltic pavements have to be coated. The coating should only be applied when the blacktop has cured properly.

You have to repair cracks immediately you see them since they can allow water, another destructive element, to enter the sub grade of pavements. Water has its own set of problems different from the sunrays when it enters the sub grade layer of pavements. Water could freeze inside pavements and create enlarged openings or cracks, which eventually form potholes when the frozen water melts away. You need to seek help of a primed contractor to construct and maintain asphalt pavements.
