The Many Uses Of Grapple Rakes

By Megan Landry

Farmers and loggers have many uses for grapple rakes. These tractor attachments are built to be very strong, yet at the same time surprisingly light weight and easy to operate. They are available from many reputable manufacturers and dealers throughout the country. There are a variety of different sizes to suit every need.

Most of the models are made from a single piece of carbon steel plate. The teeth are cut into the metal and range from half an inch to three quarters of an inch thick. They are reinforced and welded to provide many years of work and low maintenance. The teeth are also greased to make they water repellent and unlikely to rust.

The sales person should begin by meeting with the client to discuss their needs. Some people are looking for a more specialized rake to tack a very specific job. For example, anyone who runs a tree service will need a rake that is capable of moving large trees as well as branches and roots. A landscaper may be looking for the best model to clean up leaves. Fall clean up is a big part of any landscapers business calender and can be done quickly and efficiently with the right tools.

Most manufacturers recommend that the rake is stored indoors out of the weather. This simple step will help to keep it running for many years. A quick visual inspection is recommended before each use. The oil, grease and hydraulic joints should also be checked regularly to catch any leaks early. Repairs, especially to the hydraulic components can be quite expensive.

Most people purchase a rake to help with leaf and debris clean up. This type of work is time consuming and expensive. Traditionally many people are needed to rake, consolidate and remove the leaves, particularly in the fall and winter. Using a specially designed rake can save a tremendous amount of time and physical effort. Some machines are cleverly designed to actually roll the debris into compact chunks for easy removal.

In today's economy it is important to have well made products that really last. There are many American companies that manufacture extremely high quality rakes. A rake that is made in the country comes with warranties and a manufacturer that stands behind their machines. Should there ever be a problem the local dealer can help with any repairs or replacement parts.

There are also rakes that are specially designed for working with roots, stumps and rocks. The bottom row of tines are set two and a half inches apart to allow the dirt to fall out. The top row is comprised of four large tines. This enables the machine to lift up very large bulky objects and handle them with ease.

Farmers and landscapers will find that good grapple rakes save them a tremendous amount of time. The big heavy jobs are accomplished quickly and easily with only one crew member needed to operate the machine. Investing in a new rake is a great way to save both time and money by making the best use of employee time.
