The Concept Of Creative Learning Center

By Catalina Nielsen

The creative learning center model began decades ago to provide the best learning environment to children and individuals diagnosed with such neurological disorders like autism at an early age. The activities include formation of groups to aid in social development, summer camps, speech therapy, occupational therapy and intervention programs for relationship development. There are clinic and home based ABA services after the children pass their eligibility tests.

Licensed and formally trained para-professionals offer the services at the facility alongside teachers and volunteer parents. The approach adopted is innovative and ensures that the cognitive phase of development for the child is supported to the best possible level. Some of the sessions are held in the morning while others are in the evening. The environment offers the best conditions for guided and controlled innovation. It ensures that children are already sharp minded when they are beginning school.

The teachers at the facility tap into the curiosity of the young minds and guide them towards growth in body, mind and heart. The learning process is made interesting and rewarding to ensure that children continues to seek knowledge in future. It is this approach that leads to optimal performance in academic and other activities that the child engages in future.

Language sessions are by qualified and accredited personnel with formal certification. The sessions are combined with art and craft to raise their levels of creativity and make them innovative. The children grow as confident individuals and begin to chase victory at a young age. Appropriate and adequate training and games materials are provided.

Diverse subjects are included in the curriculum to ensure an all rounded individual. They include preparation and cooking of simple foods, music, dance, movement, nature and science. Pupils engage in sensory and dramatic plays which instill cooperation. There are field trips to various destinations with the aim of increasing exposure at an early age. The resulting graduate is mature in body, mind and soul.

Initial and continuous assessment places the children in groups where focus and attention are given according to their ability. The groups are designed by a team of professionals that includes behaviorists, teachers and other social experts. They place them in classes where their skills and abilities will be enhanced through specialized attention. Applied Behavior Analysis is carried out supporting self regulation and instilling a sense of independence.

Preschool children are taken through an inclusion program that focuses on readiness for school work and incidental lessons. The program for kindergarten children is both academic and play-based with a healthy student to teacher ratio. It includes such programs as computer access, recreation, drama and music. Qualified speech therapists aid the children in developing their language and interaction skills. Each child gets an individualized program with personal and specific objectives.

Creative learning center aims at nurturing the curiosity of the child by providing knowledge in the best environment. It instills a sense of confidence and self worth in the child at the earliest age. The result is a personality that is driven by the desire to solve problems, think independently and discover new things.
