Traditional techniques often involved the adults to be doing most of the instructions while others would allow the child to lead. Unlike other developmental disorder, autism affects a great part of the child's social skill or perhaps emotions. Indeed, autistic children have problems building a relationship even with their own parents, how much more to other people. They have poor to zero social and communication skills and sometimes language may not even develop.

Though it relies highly on the principles of learned conduct wherein a certain conduct will be followed with a certain reward hence such conduct will most likely be repeated.

Nowadays, ABA is believed to be an efficient and safe treatment of autism. In fact, it has been endorsed to several states already as it helps children with autism live a productive and happy life. ABA has proved to foster some of the most basic skills which unfortunately kids with autism do not have, and this includes looking, imitating, listening.

However, in most studies only a small percentage of the whole subjects show improvement. Ongoing researches are trying to find out why some autistic child responds while the others do not. Is still remains difficult for one to predict whether or not a child could have a positive outcome or not. The intensity of the program greatly varies though.
